SYNOPSIS
This is the story of four beautiful and creative young girls who live with their father and stepmother. The father is a bright and learned man whilst the very attractive stepmother is selfish and unfaithful.
The conditions of their home life deteriorate after the father falls gravely ill. The stepmother spends more and more time away from the family home, money is scarce and the young girls must work long hours to support the family. The girls believe their stepmother is neglecting their sick father.
Like many children, the girls like to read fairy tales and they often dream of a better life. They use their imagination to create a fantasy world based on the fairy tales they had read. They loved the stories and poetry they had read in their father’s book collection, and they especially loved Cinderella and other literary works of Shuji Terayama.
As the girls home life gets harder and the relationship with their stepmother worsens the girls spend more and more time in their make believe world where fairy tales can have a happy conclusion. The girls desperately want to reconnect their parents by forcing the stepmother to care more for their father. They feel they have no other choice than to take drastic action.
The sisters could only see one way to gain their freedom. It was a choice between life and death. Theirs was an act of love for their father and for each other, not of rebellion or desperation, just of love.
